Newly designed

With a broader Singleframe grille featuring sharper contours and headlights that are flatter with distinctive contours, the new Audi A3 appears even sportier and more expressive than ever before. The width of the new A3 is reinforced at the rear with the horizontal illuminated graphics of the rear lights and the separation edge above the redesigned diffuser. There are now 12 paint colours to choose from, including the five new colours Ara blue, Cosmic blue, Nano grey, Tango red and Vegas yellow. The S line model also gives the exclusive option of Daytona grey pearl effect paintwork.

Engines

The engine line-up for the new Audi A3 is comprised of three diesel and three petrol options with a power output ranging from 100hp to 190hp. All A3 models fulfil the EU6 standard.

The 1.0 TFSI is the first three-cylinder model in the Audi A3 series and delivers an output of 115hp with 200Nm of torque at 2,000 and 3,000rpm. This new entry-level engine is efficient without sacrificing driving pleasure.

The 1.4 TFSI cylinder on demand ultra has the ability to turn off two cylinders when the corresponding output is not required, making it more efficient. The engine with 1,395ccm displacement has an output of 150hp and develops 250Nm of torque.

Audi's four-cylinder TDI engine option with 1,968ccm displacement is available in two performance levels. The 2.0TDI comes optionally with 150hp and 340Nm at 1,750 to 3,000 rpm and will soon be available with 184hp and 380Nm at 1,750 to 3,000 rpm.

Finally, the new entry-level diesel engine is the 1.6TDI with 110hp and is available in combination with the six-speed manual transmission or the S tronic seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Driver assistance systems

The Audi A3 raises the bar once again in the premium compact segment with its wide range of driver assistance systems. Systems like the further developed Audi active lane assist and Audi pre sense front, including predictive pedestrian protection, make town and country driving even safer. New to the segment is traffic jam assist which works together with Audi adaptive cruise control (ACC) and its Stop&Go feature to keep the car at a safe distance from the one in front. In combination with the S tronic it can automatically set the vehicle in motion again after a short stop.

For the first time in this segment the Audi A3 offers Matrix LED headlights as an option alongside LED headlights. The A3's headlights provide a distinctive and new look with jagged bottom edges with Xenon plus units fitted as standard. A lightweight design means that the weight of the A3 with 1.2 TFSI engine has been reduced to 1,150kg making it the lightest in its class.

Infotainment and controls

The Audi virtual cockpit is a definite highlight of the new Audi A3's interior and is available for the first time in the compact class. It displays the most important driving-relevant information in high resolution on a 12.3-inch diagonal TFT screen. Smartphone-influenced operation has been introduced to the menu structure in the MMI system with infotainment featuring in the form of MMI radio plus with an electrically extended 7-inch diagonal monitor as standard. The optional MMI navigation and MMI navigation plus with MMI touch in conjunction with the Audi connect module bring a range of online features into the car. These include navigation with Google Earth and Google Street View traffic information in real time, as well as practical information on parking, destinations, news or the weather. The free Audi MMI connect apps enables other services like online media streaming and transfer of the driver's smartphone calendar to the MMI while cell phones with iOS and Andriod are connected with the car via the Audi smartphone interface.

The Audi S3

10hp features more power and , in conjunction with the S tronic, 20Nm higher torque - Audi has done one better with the Audi S3. Audi engineers have integrated S3 specific control for the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) and the multi-plate clutch. All of this results in even greater driving dynamics, pleasure and safety.

The 2.0 TFSI now has an output of 310hp and, with S tronic, delivers 400 Nm over the large range of 2,000 to 5,400 rpm. The S3 Sportback, S3 Saloon and S3 Cabriolet also benefit from a wide range of new features.
