The all-new Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet

The new generation of the A5 family is now complete with the premier of the all-new Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet. Both come with an especially wide range of equipment. Standard features are set to include xenon headlights, Audi drive select dynamic handling system and partial leather seats. Intuitive, ergonomic operation comes in the form of Audi MMI radio plus with 7" colour display, seatbelt microphones and the one-touch opening function for the soft top.

Exterior design

The design of the A5 Cabriolet follows that of the new A5 Coupe with a flatter rear window, short overhangs and the long wraparound hood with power dome all emphasising the sporty look of the car. A dominating three-dimensional Singleframe grille features on the front and is much flatter and wider than before. The elegant wave-shaped shoulder line sits above pronounced bulges over the wheel arches which highlight the quattro DNA. The new model is slightly narrower than the previous however the horizontal lines at the rear emphasise the width.

The classic soft top fits perfectly and effective insulation ensures the interior offers fantastic aeroacoustics. The new one-touch opening feature makes operating the hood easier. A quick pull of the switch will open the soft top fully automatically in 15 seconds or close it in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h.

Engines

The A5 Cabriolet will launch with 2.0 TFSI with 252hp, 2.0 TDI with 190hp and 3.0 TDI with 218hp options. This will be followed by a 2.0 TFSI with 190hp and a 3.0 TDI with 286hp following market introduction. Compared with the previous model, these engines offer as much as 17% more power and 22% less fuel. Every engine version has six-speed manual transmission, seven-speed S tronic or eight-speed tiptronic as an option. The drive is provided as standard via the front wheels while quattro drive with ultra technology and permanent all-wheel drive are available as options.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet features a newly developed 3.0 TFSIwith 354hp of power - 21hp more than the engine of the previous model. This power helps it accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds to an electronically governed top speed of 250km/h. The eight-speed tiptronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive feature as standard.

Interior and Infotainment

Space for the driver and passengers has been increased thanks to increased dimensions, a wheelbase that has been extended by 14mm and more compact seats. With the hood closed the luggage compartment has a capacity of 380 litres. The soft top compartment in the luggage compartment automatically moves down when opening the soft top and up again when the soft top is closed, this providing the largest possible luggage space.

The top of the infotainment range is MMI navigation plus with MMI touch with an 8.3" monitor. The Audi smartphone interface integrates iOS and Android phones in a specially developed environment in the MMI. Audi phone box connects smartphones to the on-board antenna to provide superior reception all while charging the smartphone without the use of any wires. Voice quality is improved, even with the hood open, through seat belt microphones for the driver and front passenger as standard. The all-new operating and display concept including natural voice control and free-text search means all functions are much easier to control. Alternatively, optional Audi virtual cockpit offers various display options presented in richly detailed graphics on a large 12.3" TFT monitor. Optional head-up display projects relevant information on to the windshield in the driver's field of vision so the driver can always keep their eyes on the road.

Driver assistance

The Audi A5 Cabriolet offers up to 30 driver assistance systems offering a broad range of support. The next step towards piloted driving comes in the form of adaptive cruise control (ACC) Stop&Go system including traffic jam assist. This system relieves drivers in slow-moving traffic up to speeds of 65km/h by controlling braking and acceleration as well as steering on better roads. A unique feature in the this segment, the predictive efficiency assistant evaluates GPS information from the car's immediate surroundings and helps save fuel by giving specific driving advice.

The Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet are due to arrive in 2017.
