A next-generation Audi RS3 is on its way, and the model has been seen by CAR magazine undergoing testing at the renowned Nurburgring as the brand prepares it for the road. More is now known on the hot hatchback, and its likely the car is being targeted at the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG.
Both vehicles fit into the compact hatchback class, and AMG-badged cars are Mercedes equivalent to Audi's RS line-up. The incoming RS3 is expected to keep the 360bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine found in the current version, and Audi will probably couple this with a smooth and responsive seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch gearbox. Drive will be sent to all four wheels via the carmaker's revered quattro system, and the Audi's superior power over the A45 suggests an attempt to turn the heads of those considering Mercedes offering.
The test car may have been disguised under a camouflaged livery, but it was unmistakably a product of Audi's RS developments. Twin oval exhaust pipes protrude from a diffuser-style plate, and the integrated spoiler merges seamlessly with the roof rails for an aerodynamic form. At the front, large air intakes have been cut into the bumper to channel cold air into the engine, while the body includes flared wheel arches over alloy wheels.
As developments continue to the RS3, you can be among the first to read about them with Audi Centre, South Dublin. For details on all of the latest arrivals from the marque, enquire with our Ballsbridge new car centre.
